Whoopi Goldberg and Jenifer Lewis are reuniting for a new Netflix comedy nearly three decades after their last movie together.
Goldberg and Lewis will star alongside Vanessa Williams and Vivica A. Fox in Women Like Us, an ensemble story about four women confronting grief, marriage and long-delayed dreams during a weekend in the Hamptons.
Tasha Smith will direct the film from a screenplay by Ali Kinney, with additional writing from Girls Trip co-writer Tracy Oliver. Michelle Obama is among the executive producers through Higher Ground.
Netflix has not revealed the actors’ character names or confirmed which member of the ensemble will play the recently widowed woman at the center of the story.
A Widowed Woman Is Taken to the Hamptons
According to Netflix’s official announcement, Women Like Us begins as a woman approaches what would have been her 30th wedding anniversary following the death of her husband. Her lifelong best friends and sister refuse to let her spend the occasion alone and persuade her to join them for a weekend in the Hamptons.
The trip becomes an opportunity for the women to examine their marriages, grief and the relationships that have supported them over the years. The story will also explore the possibility of pursuing ambitions later in life, with Netflix describing the characters as realizing that “dreams don’t have an expiration date.”
Goldberg and Lewis Are Reuniting After Nearly 30 Years

Women Like Us marks Goldberg and Lewis’ first movie together since the 1999 television comedy Jackie’s Back! The longtime friends previously appeared together in Sister Act and the 1994 romantic drama Corrina, Corrina.
Lewis has also appeared several times on The View, which Goldberg has moderated since 2007. During a 2022 appearance on the daytime show, Goldberg publicly encouraged Lewis to join the long-discussed Sister Act 3.
That project remains separate from Women Like Us, which is an original Netflix production with no connection to the musical-comedy franchise. Williams and Fox complete the announced central ensemble. The actresses previously worked together in the 1997 family drama Soul Food.
Tasha Smith Will Direct the Ensemble Comedy
Smith will direct after helming episodes of television series including Mayor of Kingstown, Bel-Air and Harlem. Goldberg appeared in a recurring role on Harlem, making Women Like Us another collaboration between the actor and director.
Kinney, whose television credits include Ginny & Georgia, wrote the screenplay. Oliver, whose work includes Girls Trip, The Blackening and The Sun Is Also a Star, contributed additional writing.
James Lopez and Poppy Hanks will produce for MACRO Film Studios. Anikah McLaren and Mark R. Wright are producing for Higher Ground. Production is expected to begin in New York City in fall 2026.
