Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s daughter Vivienne has become the fourth of their six children to legally remove “Pitt” from her surname. A Los Angeles judge approved the 18-year-old’s request on November 2, changing her name to Vivienne Marcheline Jolie.
Judge Virginia Keeny granted the petition without objections, according to the court order obtained by USA TODAY. The decree was signed and filed, completing a process Vivienne began in July.
She submitted the request shortly after she and twin brother Knox turned 18 on July 12. Her petition listed the reason for the change simply as “personal.”
Representatives for both parents declined to comment on the ruling. Jolie filed for divorce from Pitt in September 2016, and the former couple reached a settlement in December 2024 after years of disputes over custody and finances.
Vivienne Had Already Used Jolie in Her Broadway Work
Before the hearing, Vivienne published notice of her proposed name change in the Los Angeles Daily Journal for four consecutive weeks. The notices appeared on July 24, July 31, August 7 and August 14, as Wealth of Geeks reported in August, when her petition was still pending.
Her professional credits had changed much earlier. In 2024, the Playbill for Broadway’s The Outsiders listed her as “Vivienne Jolie.” She worked as a producer’s assistant on the musical, which her mother helped produce.
At the show’s April 11 opening, Jolie and composer and co-book writer Justin Levine discussed working with Vivienne during an interview with Extra. Levine praised her observations and the perspective she brought to the team.
Jolie joked that her daughter had gravitated toward the show’s musicians and writers, adding, “She’s a wise little greaser.”
Knox’s Diploma Name Has Prompted Speculation About His Next Step
Knox reportedly used “Knox Jolie” on his diploma when he graduated from Fusion Academy in Los Angeles in June. Jolie, Vivienne, Pax and Zahara attended the graduation.
In a Page Six report published November 7, another unnamed source predicted that Knox would eventually pursue a legal change, while acknowledging that he had not filed anything and that there was no timeline.
Shiloh, Maddox and Zahara Received Earlier Court Approvals
Shiloh was the first sibling to complete the legal process. She filed in May 2024, and a judge approved the name Shiloh Nouvel Jolie on August 19 that year, according to ABC News.
Maddox, now 25, became Maddox Chivan Jolie after his petition was granted on September 14, 2026. Us Weekly obtained the court documents confirming the approval. He had already been credited as Maddox Jolie for his assistant-director work on his mother’s film Couture.
Zahara, 21, received approval on September 28, becoming Zahara Marley Jolie. She had introduced herself by that name during a 2023 Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority event at Spelman College. The former couple also share Pax, 22. No comparable completed legal name change has been publicly reported for him.
