Courteney Cox and her daughter, Coco Arquette, have documented their close relationship through childhood throwbacks, family vacations, musical performances and some of the actress’s biggest Hollywood milestones.
The Friends star shares her only child with former husband David Arquette.
Coco Riley Arquette was born in Los Angeles on June 13, 2004, and recently celebrated her 22nd birthday.
Photographs collected by PEOPLE show the pair holding hands on red carpets, traveling together, performing music and laughing through the ordinary moments between major events.
Coco’s Name Comes From Courteney Cox
Coco’s first name contains a direct connection to her mother. David explained in a 2010 interview that it combines the opening letters of Courteney’s first and last names, “CO” from Courteney and “CO” from Cox.
Cox has celebrated Coco’s birthdays with photographs from every stage of her life. A 2021 carousel included images of Coco as a baby, while the latest post paired a current selfie with a throwback showing them together in the ocean. “Happy Birthday Co,” Cox wrote in June 2026. “You are such a wise soul. Funniest person I know and my life teacher. I love you.”
Coco Joined Her Mother for Major Hollywood Moments
Coco accompanied Cox to the New York premiere of Scream VI in March 2023. The pair posed while holding hands, with Cox wearing black and Coco choosing a red dress for the event.
Days earlier, Coco had watched her mother receive the 2,750th star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Jennifer Aniston, Lisa Kudrow and Laura Dern joined the ceremony, while Coco posed with Cox and supported her from the audience.
Their red-carpet appearances began years earlier. In April 2015, Coco attended a special Los Angeles screening of Just Before I Go, which marked Cox’s feature directorial debut.
They Share Music, Fashion and Vacation Memories
Cox and Coco have performed several songs together, with Coco singing as her mother played the piano. Their videos have included covers of Adele’s “Chasing Pavements,” Fleetwood Mac’s “Silver Springs,” Demi Lovato’s “Anyone” and Taylor Swift’s “Cardigan.”
In 2020, they attempted a deliberately awkward TikTok dance that Cox captioned, “Wanna see your child lose their patience? Do a TikTok with them.” Coco has also filmed herself doing her mother’s makeup.
In 2019, Coco wore the same sleeveless floral dress Cox had selected for the 1998 premiere of Snake Eyes. Cox shared side-by-side photographs of the garment 21 years apart, writing that she normally did not save clothes but considered the dress “a damn good purchase.”
Vacation photographs have shown them playing paddleball in the Bahamas and sightseeing in Australia. During a February 2025 trip to Sydney, Coco leaned toward her mother as they took a harbor cruise together.
Cox Has Been Honest About Their Disagreements
She said they fought at times and that she had to learn the importance of maintaining consistent boundaries. “You’ve got to pick your battles and decide what is important,” Cox told PEOPLE in 2022. She also described Coco as a skilled apologizer who could talk her way out of almost anything.
Coco offered a similarly candid description when she was 13. “I am a 13-year-old girl, you are a mom, so I love you, but of course we’re gonna get in fights,” she said. “But we’re very close. Very close. I love you a lot.”
