Emma Roberts marked her aunt Julia Roberts’ 59th birthday with a rare personal photograph of the two actresses embracing.
The 35-year-old shared the image on October 28th, writing, “happy birthday Aunt Julia 👑 i love you beyond!!”
Emma wears a white dress in the photograph, while Julia is dressed in a cream blouse and brown trousers. Both have their long, loosely curled hair down.
The image appears to come from Emma’s summer wedding celebrations, according to Entertainment Weekly.

Julia attended Emma’s July 25th wedding to actor Cody John in Sun Valley, Idaho. The couple married at his family’s home after four years together, as Emma detailed in Vogue. Emma is the daughter of Julia’s older brother, actor Eric Roberts.
Reflecting on the weekend, Emma said having her loved ones gathered together, present and away from their phones, made the occasion especially meaningful. “I couldn’t have dreamed it better,” she told the magazine.

Julia’s husband, cinematographer Danny Moder, also celebrated her with an Instagram post. His throwback photograph shows him kissing her shoulder as she laughs beside a birthday cake covered in lit candles.
“celebrating everyday… but october 28 the most,” he wrote. “more candles bring more joy. love you so much.”
The couple met in 2000 while working on The Mexican, which was released the following year, and married on July 4th, 2002, according to PEOPLE. They celebrated their 24th anniversary this summer and have three children: twins Hazel and Phinnaeus, 21, and Henry, 19.
Julia Previously Called Emma Her ‘Magical One’
In February 2022, Julia marked Emma’s 31st birthday with a playful video of them wearing party hats and blowing party horns as confetti fell around them. “Happy Birthday Magical One! Oh how I love you,” she wrote, as UPI reported.
The actresses also appeared together at the Veuve Clicquot x Simon Porte Jacquemus party during New York Fashion Week on September 9th, 2025. Both wore black for what PEOPLE reported was their first joint red-carpet appearance since the 2012 premiere of Jesus Henry Christ.
Emma Learned About Filmmaking on Julia’s Sets
In a 2022 interview with Tatler, Emma recalled visiting the sets of Erin Brockovich and America’s Sweethearts as a child. She wrote wardrobe tags, organized makeup brushes and watched how crews maintained continuity records. She also appeared as an extra in America’s Sweethearts.
Being around Julia also exposed her to the pressures of stardom. During her June 2024 appearance on iHeart’s Table for Two podcast, Emma told host Bruce Bozzi that witnessing her aunt’s level of fame had made her cautious about pursuing it herself.
She said her priority was finding creatively fulfilling work. “I never want my fame to outweigh my work,” she said.
