Hulu has canceled Alex Cooper’s yacht-set dating competition Love Overboard after one season, five months after all nine episodes arrived on the streamer.
Page Six first reported the cancellation on August 31, quoting a source who said the show “wasn’t finding its audience.” The Hollywood Reporter later confirmed that Hulu would not bring the series back for a second season.
Love Overboard premiered March 26 with Gabby Windey hosting 22 singles aboard a luxury yacht. Cooper executive produced through Unwell Productions alongside producers from Jeff Jenkins Productions, 3BMG and Walt Disney Television Alternative.
Unwell still has another project in development at Hulu. Nina Dobrev and Paul Wesley are attached to star in and executive produce the thriller You Deserve to Know, which Wealth of Geeks covered in June.
Hulu Gave ‘Love Overboard’ an ABC Preview Before Releasing All Nine Episodes
Disney introduced the series on broadcast television before its streaming launch. The premiere episode aired as a special preview on ABC on March 22 following The Bachelorette, four days before the complete season became available on Hulu and Hulu on Disney+.
The competition began with 16 singles, with six additional “shipwreckers” joining during the season. Contestants competed for access to the yacht’s more comfortable living spaces while pursuing relationships and trying to remain in the game.
Gia Aldisert and Tim Demirjian won the season after the remaining cast members voted them the strongest couple. Their prize was a trip around the world valued at $100,000.
No Public Viewership Total Accompanied the Cancellation
Page Six attributed the decision to audience size, with its source saying Love Overboard had not found enough viewers. The report did not provide an internal Hulu streaming total or Nielsen audience figure.
The Hollywood Reporter also noted that the series did not generate the attention surrounding some of Hulu’s other unscripted franchises. Hulu has not publicly announced a more detailed explanation for ending the show.
The cancellation leaves Love Overboard with one nine-episode season. Hulu continues to list the complete season on its platform.

Unwell’s work with Hulu extends beyond Love Overboard. The company is producing You Deserve to Know with Kapital Entertainment, reuniting former The Vampire Diaries costars Nina Dobrev and Paul Wesley.
The project is based on Aggie Blum Thompson’s 2025 novel and follows three neighboring couples after one of the husbands is murdered. Dobrev will play Gwen and Wesley will play Scott, two neighbors who end up on opposing sides of the investigation.
Brian Tanen is writing the adaptation, with Cooper among its executive producers. The series remains in development at Hulu rather than having a publicly announced premiere date.
Unwell Took Its First Outside Investment at a $500 Million Valuation
The cancellation also arrives weeks after Cooper and husband Matt Kaplan’s broader media company took its first outside investment.
WTSL, the investment firm led by Patrick Whitesell, invested an undisclosed amount in Unwell in August. Forbes reported that the deal valued the company at $500 million.
The size of WTSL’s investment was not disclosed.
