Jaime King’s representative has addressed why the actress and her son Leo Thames, Taylor Swift’s godson, were not at Swift and Travis Kelce’s wedding.
PEOPLE reported that King and Leo did not attend the July 3 ceremony at Madison Square Garden, which drew roughly 1,000 guests.
Swift has been Leo’s godmother since 2015, when King asked the singer to take on the role after the two became close friends.

The rep also said Leo was still too young for a large adult wedding celebration. She added that he and King celebrated Swift and Kelce’s marriage in a special, age-appropriate way during his summer break.
King and Swift became close after meeting at a Golden Globes party in 2014. The following year, King publicly named Swift as godmother to Leo, her son with ex-husband Kyle Newman.
“The reason Jaime chose Taylor as Leo Thames’s godmother is because they both believe that being a godmother is a deeply personal and spiritual commitment that has nothing to do with public appearances,” Owen told Page Six, according to PEOPLE.
At the time, King told PEOPLE that she chose Swift because of her morals, values, work ethic, family closeness and the way she treated others.
King said then that Swift was the kind of person she wanted as a guide and spiritual protector for her child. That older explanation lines up closely with Owen’s new statement that the role was never about red carpets or public events.
