Lady Gaga and Michael Polansky’s first child is a baby girl named Rose Bean Polansky, and both parts of her name have reported connections to music that has shaped Gaga’s career.
A birth certificate obtained by TMZ shows that Rose was born June 9th at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. The document resolves details Gaga and Polansky had kept private even after news of their first child became public earlier this month.
A source subsequently told People that Rose was inspired by Gaga’s long connection to “La Vie En Rose,” the Édith Piaf song she performed in A Star Is Born and later honored with a large rose tattoo running down her spine. The same source said the middle name Bean likely comes from singer, minister and LGBTQ activist Carl Bean, whose 1977 recording of “I Was Born This Way” influenced Gaga’s own Born This Way era.
Gaga and Polansky have still not personally announced their daughter’s name or sex, and their representatives did not confirm the new details to People. The information has emerged after a summer the couple reportedly spent largely away from work and the public eye with the child Gaga had said for years that she hoped to have.

A source close to the singer told People that her daughter’s first name was inspired by “La Vie En Rose,” a song that connects several major moments in Gaga’s transition from pop star to leading actress. Gaga performed the Édith Piaf standard as Ally in 2018’s A Star Is Born, during the nightclub scene in which Bradley Cooper’s Jackson Maine first sees her perform. The song had already played a role in bringing Gaga and Cooper together professionally.
Cooper saw her sing “La Vie En Rose” at a 2016 benefit connected to the Parker Institute for Cancer Immunotherapy and later said the performance helped convince him she was right for Ally. Gaga made the connection permanent in February 2019. She revealed a delicate single-needle rose extending down her spine, with the words “la vie en rose” written beside the stem, according to Allure.
“My spinal cord is now a rose,” Gaga wrote while unveiling the tattoo. That awards season also marked another major milestone in the A Star Is Born chapter of her career. Gaga was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actress and won Best Original Song for “Shallow.”
Bean Likely Honors the Activist Who Inspired ‘Born This Way’
The connection between Bean and Gaga’s own work is well established independently of the baby’s name. While celebrating the 10th anniversary of Born This Way in 2021, Gaga publicly credited Bean and his work as an inspiration for her song and album.
Bean’s version of “I Was Born This Way” became a disco-era gay anthem. He later founded the Unity Fellowship Church Movement and devoted much of his life to LGBTQ advocacy and ministry, including work connected to the HIV/AIDS crisis.
Gaga’s “Born This Way,” released in 2011, became one of the defining songs of her career and one of her most recognizable statements about identity and acceptance.
The Birth Certificate Revealed Details Gaga Had Kept Private
People confirmed through a source that Gaga and Polansky had welcomed their first baby with almost no information about the child. Around the same time, photographs showed Gaga holding the baby close to her chest during an outing in Northern California with Polansky and a friend.
TMZ’s newly obtained birth certificate supplied the missing details, identifying their daughter as Rose Bean Polansky and showing that she had been born more than three months earlier, on June 9th at 11:19 p.m.
A source told People that Gaga and Polansky both took time away from work to be with their newborn and that they “both beam” when discussing becoming parents.
Gaga Had Been Saying for Years That She Wanted to Be a Mom
During an October 2025 appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Gaga was asked what role she still hoped to take on after building major careers in music and acting. Her answer was motherhood. Gaga told Colbert that becoming a mom was the “next starring role” she hoped to have, continuing a subject she had discussed publicly for years.
Her intentions had been equally direct with Polansky. In a 2025 interview, Gaga revealed that she asked him whether he wanted marriage and children before they had even sat down on their first date. “I wanted marriage and kids more than anything,” she recalled, according to People.
Polansky told her he wanted those things too. Their relationship eventually developed into a creative partnership as well, with Polansky receiving songwriting credits and serving as an executive producer on Gaga’s 2025 album Mayhem.
Gaga had expressed similar hopes before meeting him. In a 2019 conversation with NikkieTutorials about what she wanted from the coming decade, she listed making more films, more music and having babies among her plans.
Gaga and Polansky Had Already Discussed How They Wanted to Raise Children
In a 2025 Elle cover interview, Gaga said she and Polansky had talked about allowing their future children to develop identities of their own instead of feeling defined by their mother’s career.
She said she would not want to dictate what her children should think about her music, performances or public persona. Instead, she wanted them to determine for themselves what her work meant to them and have room to discover who they were.
Gaga described a future that included “me and Michael and our kids,” making family part of the life she envisioned beyond her career. Another source said Gaga had been ready to slow down after finishing the Mayhem Ball tour in April and was enjoying time away from the public eye with the baby. Polansky was described as equally involved as the couple adjusted to parenthood together.
Gaga and Polansky Have Kept Their Privacy
The pair began dating in late 2019 and became publicly linked around Super Bowl weekend in early 2020. They then spent part of the early COVID-19 pandemic quarantining together at Gaga’s Malibu home.
Their engagement also remained private for months. Polansky proposed in April 2024, but Gaga did not publicly confirm their status until July, when she introduced him as her fiancé during the Paris Olympics.
Despite speculation that Gaga and Polansky had also quietly married, TMZ reported earlier this month that sources with direct knowledge said the couple remains engaged and has not married.
