Neve Campbell was in London to promote the spy thriller Black Doves when she confirmed she’ll play Sidney Prescott again in Scream 8. Asked what she could reveal about the next Ghostface movie, Campbell laughed. “I’ll be in it,” she told the Associated Press.

It will be Campbell’s seventh appearance as Sidney, the Woodsboro teenager she first played in Wes Craven’s Scream in 1996. For a time, Campbell thought the fifth film might be her last.

By the time she returned for Scream 7 in February, Sidney was raising a teenager of her own. Isabel May played her daughter Tatum, named for the friend Sidney lost in the original film. This time, the calls from Ghostface put her daughter’s life in danger.

The seventh film opened to about $97 million worldwide, a record for the series. By late March it had passed $200 million, making it the franchise’s highest-grossing installment, according to Paramount.

In the clip AP Entertainment shared on November 2, Campbell started with two television shows she’s developing. She’d already sold one of them. Then she added Scream 8 to the list. The reporter followed up, but Campbell kept the plot to herself.

She went a little further in a separate interview at the same event. “I’m giving notes,” Campbell told Official Pop Drop when the subject of the screenplay came up. She hasn’t said what changes she’s suggested for Sidney.

Why Campbell Thought She Had Played Sidney for the Last Time

Campbell walked away from Scream VI in 2022 because she felt the offer undervalued what she’d brought to the series. The film went ahead without her, following sisters Sam and Tara Carpenter to New York City, and opened in 2023.

Speaking to CBS Mornings in February, Campbell recalled how hard it was to think of the cast arriving for the first day of filming without her. She also knew how she would have felt walking onto that set after accepting an offer she believed was unfair. “I thought that was it,” she said of her decision to leave.

In March 2024, Campbell announced she had signed on for Scream 7. Kevin Williamson, who wrote the original movie, would direct her for the first time in the series. Variety reported that Campbell’s deal for the seventh film was worth nearly $7 million.

The Poker Face Writers Taking On Scream 8

In March 2026, TheWrap reported that Spyglass had hired sisters Lilla and Nora Zuckerman to write the screenplay. The pair ran the first season of Peacock’s murder mystery Poker Face. Williamson is expected to produce the new film. A director and release date have yet to be announced.

Campbell had ideas for the sequel even before the sisters came aboard. At the premiere of Scream 7, Williamson recalled a conversation on set at three in the morning about where the story could go next. “Neve had this great idea, and everyone seemed to run with it,” he told Deadline.
