Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are reportedly considering spending more time in the United Kingdom following their private family reunion with King Charles III, but no move from California or return to royal duties has been announced.

Page Six reported that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex may use their holiday property in Portugal as a base for more frequent visits to Britain. The report described the possibility as a reversal of “Megxit,” the name widely applied to their 2020 departure from working royal life.

Harry also reportedly told guests at the July 16 TIME100 Sports Gala that Meghan and their children were “happy” to be home in Montecito following their brief U.K. visit.

Reports Point to Portugal as a Possible Base

The Page Six report claimed Harry wants to rebuild his connection with Britain and could return every few months. It also suggested that the couple’s Portugal home might serve as a staging point between California and the United Kingdom.

Anonymous sources further characterized Harry as feeling increasingly disconnected from life in the United States and claimed Meghan has concerns about their public position.

Harry and Meghan stepped back as senior working royals in 2020 and relocated to North America. In a February 2021 statement, Buckingham Palace said the couple had confirmed that they would not return as working members of the royal family.

The Highgrove Reunion Was Officially Confirmed

Buckingham Palace confirmed that Charles and Queen Camilla hosted Harry, Meghan, Archie and Lilibet at Highgrove House on July 10. The private meeting followed Harry’s appearances in Britain connected to the one-year countdown to the 2027 Invictus Games in Birmingham.

No photographs or details of the family conversation were released. The gathering marked the first time Charles had seen his California-based grandchildren in four years, following their previous visit during Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations in 2022.

The reunion followed a period of limited contact between Harry and his father. Harry traveled to Britain after Charles’ cancer diagnosis in 2024 and has repeatedly said that he would like to reconcile with his family.

Security Still Complicates Future Family Visits

Harry lost a legal appeal in 2025 over changes to the police protection provided when he visits Britain. His security is assessed on a case-by-case basis rather than automatically supplied under the arrangements he had as a working royal.

People reported that a review of Harry’s security arrangements by the Executive Committee for the Protection of Royalty and Public Figures remains ongoing.
