Russell Howard Reveals Baby Son Felix Died Shortly After Birth, Launches Foundation in His Name

Russell Howard and his wife, Dr. Cerys Morgan, have revealed that their baby son Felix died shortly after birth earlier this year.

“Earlier this year, our family changed forever,” the 46-year-old comedian wrote in a September 4 statement on Instagram. Howard described the period after Felix’s death as the most devastating time of their lives and thanked the hospital staff who cared for the family.

Howard and Morgan were able to hold Felix, speak to him and tell him how much they loved him during the hours they spent together. They have not disclosed when Felix was born, the cause of his death or other medical details.

The couple have now established The Felix Foundation in their son’s memory. The registered charity will support specialist training, equipment and hospital spaces intended to improve care for families affected by premature birth, stillbirth, neonatal death and related bereavement.

Howard said Felix was placed in a cool cot during the family’s time at the hospital, allowing him and Morgan to remain with their son for precious hours after his death.

“We could hold him, talk to him and tell him just how much we loved him,” Howard wrote. He described those hours as among the family’s most precious memories of Felix.

The couple were also supported by a bereavement midwife named Lauren, who Howard said had experienced the loss of her own baby before retraining as a midwife. He credited her and the wider hospital team with providing extraordinary compassion, kindness and humanity during the family’s time there.

The Felix Foundation Will Fund Specialist Bereavement Care

Howard said he and Morgan made a promise during their hospital stay that they would try to improve the care available to other families facing similar circumstances. That promise became The Felix Foundation Supporting Neonatal Care, registered charity 1218644 in England and Wales.

The foundation says it will fund specialist professional training around preterm birth, stillbirth and neonatal loss. Midwives and other maternity, neonatal and bereavement professionals can seek support for training intended to improve care for families.

Hospitals can also approach the charity about equipment and improvements to care environments, including private bereavement spaces and cooling or cuddle cots. The foundation says those spaces are intended to give grieving families privacy and allow them to remain together away from busy maternity wards.

Eight Comedians Will Join Howard at The O2

Howard will host The Felix Foundation Charity Stand-Up Gala at London’s O2 on February 8, 2027. The foundation’s official event page lists Michael McIntyre, Jimmy Carr, Aisling Bea, Guz Khan, Greg Davies, Mo Gilligan, Michelle Wolf and John Bishop alongside Howard, with more performers expected to be announced.

Howard said every comedian on the announced lineup agreed to take part without accepting a fee. Money raised by the event will support the foundation’s training, equipment and hospital projects.

Presales begin September 9, with general ticket sales scheduled for September 11. Howard said he and Morgan miss Felix every day and hope his name will stand for “kindness, compassion and laughter” while helping other families through baby loss.
