Matty Healy is preparing to marry Gabbriette Bechtel, but a new tabloid report has returned the conversation to his brief relationship with Taylor Swift.
The 1975 frontman recently celebrated his bachelor party in Malibu, where he joined tribute band The 9075 to perform his own group’s songs. Gabbriette had already marked her approaching wedding with a theatrical bachelorette weekend in Las Vegas.
Days before the ceremony, the Daily Mail framed Swift’s continued connection to Healy in headlines as an unwelcome distraction around the wedding.
The report’s promotional post quoted a source saying Healy “really did love her” and that his mother, Denise Welch, disliked the effect the relationship and its aftermath had on him.

The Daily Mail described Swift as a continuing “problem” surrounding Healy’s wedding, citing the attention still given to their short romance and the songs widely believed to concern him on her 2024 album, The Tortured Poets Department.
Healy and Swift were romantically linked in spring 2023 after years of friendship and professional overlap. The relationship ended in June 2023 after a short period of intense public attention.
Healy later said he was no longer interested in writing publicly about casual romantic relationships because he did not want his personal life to become entertainment.
Denise Welch Previously Called the Swift Period “Tricky”
Welch addressed her son’s relationship with Swift during a July 2025 appearance on Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen. She joked that becoming Swift’s mother-in-law was a role she was glad to have lost, prompting an audible reaction from the studio audience.
She immediately added that she had nothing against Swift personally but described the situation as “tricky.” Welch said Healy had handled the continued attention with dignity despite songs on The Tortured Poets Department being widely interpreted as references to him.
Welch has spoken much more directly about her approval of Gabbriette. When confirming the engagement on Loose Women in 2024, she said Healy had commissioned a black diamond ring and called Gabbriette everything she would want in a daughter-in-law.
She also said the family “couldn’t be happier” about the engagement. Healy and Gabbriette first sparked romance rumors in September 2023 and announced their engagement after attending Charli XCX’s show in Brooklyn the following June.

People reported that Healy celebrated his bachelor party by performing with The 9075, videos from the Malibu gathering showed him joining the musicians for songs including “The Sound” and “Sex.”
Healy wore a wig resembling one of his earlier looks, danced with the tribute group and crowd-surfed above the guests. His 1975 bandmate George Daniel, who is married to Charli XCX, also attended.
Gabbriette Has Already Celebrated in Las Vegas
Gabbriette held her bachelorette festivities in Las Vegas in June. TMZ reported that the celebration began with a staged arrest in which she was jokingly handcuffed and carried onto a private jet.
She wore vintage Chanel during the weekend, while other photos showed pink decorations, playing-card details, fake money, champagne and bridal-party styling built around a theatrical Vegas theme.
