Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s Madison Square Garden wedding may have been massive, but one family member says the ceremony still felt personal.

Swift’s aunt, Robin Gentry, shared a few details after attending the couple’s July 3 wedding in New York City. Page Six reported that Gentry said Swift and Kelce laughed, cried, danced and had emotional moments throughout the celebration.

These personal details lent a surprising warmth to an event otherwise defined by its massive scale, tight security, and star-studded guest list. While Madison Square Garden is usually a glaringly public stage and hosted over 1,000 guests for the occasion, according to PEOPLE, the couple’s vows managed to pull the focus right back to just the two of them.

One of the most meaningful details came from the ceremony itself. Swift and Kelce exchanged handwritten vows, reading them from small books in front of their guests.

Good Morning America hosts Robin Roberts, George Stephanopoulos and Michael Strahan described the vows after attending the wedding. PEOPLE reported that the hosts said the vows felt real, vulnerable, serious, silly and deeply loving.

“The vows were very personal,” Roberts said, according to PEOPLE. Strahan added that the couple’s words were both “funny” and emotional.

Guests Said the Wedding Still Felt Intimate

The wedding itself was far from small. PEOPLE reported that more than 1,000 guests attended, and the venue was transformed into what the outlet described as “a garden inside the Garden.”

Swift wore custom Christian Dior Haute Couture, while Kelce also wore Dior. PEOPLE reported that Swift completed her look with Cartier jewelry and Christian Louboutin shoes.

The guest list included major names from music, film, television and sports. PEOPLE reported that Stevie Nicks performed during the celebration, while guests included Ed Sheeran, Mariska Hargitay, Gigi Hadid, Bradley Cooper and several of Kelce’s NFL friends.

Even with the scale, Roberts said the ceremony had the feeling of a hometown wedding. PEOPLE reported that she pointed to the mix of family, friends, neighbors and people who knew Swift and Kelce before the height of their fame.
