Tom Segura has denied making Christina Pazsitzky explain their divorce by herself after some listeners criticized his absence from her emotional podcast announcement.
The 47-year-old comedian addressed the end of their 18-year marriage on the Aug. 12 episode of Your Mom’s House, joined by comedian Ryan Sickler instead of Pazsitzky. She had discussed the divorce on the same podcast one week earlier with Duncan Trussell as her guest.
Segura described the separation as a “horrible experience” and an emotional “roller coaster,” particularly now that something the couple had been dealing with privately for months is unfolding publicly. He also said he and Pazsitzky remain in daily contact, support each other and are concentrating on their two sons.
Pazsitzky, 50, had already rejected the idea of a hostile breakup. Although she became tearful while discussing the decision, she asked listeners not to choose sides and said she and Segura had spent several years trying to preserve their marriage for their family.
Segura Said Separate Episodes Were a Joint Decision
Segura opened episode 872 of Your Mom’s House by acknowledging that it was his first appearance on the podcast in some time. He said it bothered him to see comments accusing him of forcing Pazsitzky to address their split alone.
“I can’t believe you would make her go address this alone,” Segura recalled some listeners saying, according to the Los Angeles Times. He said that interpretation “couldn’t be further from the truth.”
“The truth is that we have been recording separate episodes for a long time now because everything that people know is not new to us,” Segura explained. “It’s been many, many months.”
Pazsitzky’s episode simply happened to be the first one scheduled after TMZ learned that the couple had separated, he said, so she addressed the news before he did. “It was never like, ‘Hey, you go handle this,'” Segura said. “It was just the timing … and we both decided to record separately.”
Both Comedians Say the Divorce Is Not Hostile
Segura said the emotional reality of ending the marriage can change throughout a single day. “It’s a horrible experience,” he said. “It’s a long experience. It’s emotionally a roller coaster.” He added that having the breakup become a public subject has made the situation harder.
“Having it be public is awful,” Segura said, explaining that he considers the divorce a private matter even though he understands why longtime listeners are interested. He nevertheless pushed back against the idea that he and Pazsitzky are fighting. “We’re not combative,” Segura said. “We talk every day. I support Christina and everything she does. She supports me, and our focus, as you would imagine, is just on our children.”
The couple share sons Ellis, born in 2016, and Julian, born in 2018. Segura said they are trying to provide the best life possible for them while the family adjusts. Pazsitzky gave a similar account during episode 871 of Your Mom’s House. “Yes, Tom and I are divorcing, and it is extremely sad,” she said before becoming emotional.
She explained that they had tried to resolve their problems for “several, several years” for the sake of their children and family. “We gave it all we could, but we just couldn’t work things out,” Pazsitzky said. “We are no longer a couple.” She also discouraged listeners from dividing themselves into “Team Christina” and “Team Tom.” “This is not an ugly divorce,” she said. “We’re cool, dude.”
Pazsitzky Filed for Divorce Months Before the Split Became Public
TMZ reported that Pazsitzky actually filed for divorce in Texas in May, approximately two months before news of their separation became public. According to the outlet, the pair filed court documents seeking to seal the case only days later. As a result, details about the divorce proceedings are not publicly available.
TMZ first reported the separation on July 13, citing sources who described the breakup as amicable and said it had taken place within the previous couple of months. Segura and Pazsitzky married in 2008 after meeting through the comedy world and had been together for approximately 20 years.
‘Your Mom’s House’ Is Expected to Continue
Segura and Pazsitzky launched Your Mom’s House in 2010 and subsequently built YMH Studios around the podcast and a larger network of shows. Although episodes 871 and 872 were hosted separately, the end of their marriage is not expected to end their professional collaboration. When TMZ first reported the separation in July, sources told the outlet that Segura and Pazsitzky planned to continue co-hosting Your Mom’s House.
The two have already spent months recording episodes separately, according to Segura. Segura also made clear that he does not intend to turn the breakup into a series of interviews or public explanations.
He said he plans to concentrate on his work, his children and co-parenting with Pazsitzky rather than repeatedly revisit the end of their marriage in interviews, podcasts or press appearances. “This is me addressing what it is and how it’s been, and it’s been terrible,” Segura said. “And I don’t feel like I need to keep talking about this. As disappointing as it is,” he added, “it is what it is.”
