Adrien Broner is asking a Florida judge to set aside a bench warrant issued after he missed a court date in a criminal trespass case tied to the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino.

An attorney for the former four-division boxing champion entered a written not-guilty plea and said notice of the hearing was sent to an old address while Broner was between homes, according to court documents obtained by TMZ. The filing says Broner mistakenly believed the case had been closed and retained counsel after learning about the warrant.

The underlying charge stems from an April 2024 incident. According to a Seminole Police Department report cited by TMZ, Broner returned to the Hollywood, Florida, casino after receiving a lifetime ban in August 2023 and was arrested on an allegation of trespassing.

Broner returned to the Seminole Hard Rock complex for an officially promoted boxing event less than two months after that arrest, fighting Blair Cobbs at Hard Rock Live on June 7, 2024.

Broner’s Lawyer Asks the Judge to Set Aside the Bench Warrant

Broner’s attorney described him as a celebrity professional athlete and said he was between residences when notice of the court appearance was delivered to his former address. According to TMZ’s account of the filing, the lawyer maintained that Broner did not intentionally disregard the proceeding and instead believed the case had already been closed.

After learning that a warrant had been issued, Broner hired an attorney to address the case. His lawyer entered the written not-guilty plea and asked the judge to set aside the bench warrant now that Broner is participating in the proceedings. TMZ’s Aug. 28 report did not indicate that the judge had ruled on the request.

Police Say the Casino Ban Predated the Arrest by About Eight Months

The police account cited by TMZ says officers were called to the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in April 2024 after Broner was allegedly found on the property. Police said the casino had issued him a lifetime ban in August 2023 but alleged that he returned anyway, leading to his arrest.

The criminal trespass case remained pending more than two years later. World Boxing News also reported on the warrant and the still-unresolved 2024 case.

Broner Returned to the Seminole Hard Rock for the Blair Cobbs Fight

Broner’s subsequent appearances at the same resort make the chronology more complicated. He participated in a May 16, 2024, news conference at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino to promote his fight against Cobbs. Don King Productions’ description of the event listed the casino as the location and identified the June 7 showdown as taking place there as well.

The fight went ahead at Hard Rock Live, the entertainment venue inside the Seminole Hard Rock complex in Hollywood, less than two months after the alleged trespass that led to Broner’s arrest.

Cobbs dropped Broner in the second round and went on to win their 10-round welterweight fight by unanimous decision, according to DAZN’s results. The judges scored the bout 97-91, 96-93 and 96-93 in Cobbs’ favor.

The June 2024 defeat remains Broner’s most recent professional fight. The Cincinnati native, who won world titles across four weight divisions during his career, has a professional record of 35 wins, five losses and one draw.
