Tim Tebow is stepping away from Life Surge while his team investigates allegations about the Christian financial-education company he has represented at events across the country.
The former NFL quarterback said Friday that he was pausing the relationship after learning about an investigation by Pablo Torre Finds Out and Mother Jones. Tebow called the allegations “extremely, extremely serious” and said his team would examine the claims before deciding what comes next, The Washington Post reported.
Tebow learned about the report from his team Thursday while leaving an anti-human trafficking conference and traveling to Alabama, saying the allegations caught him off guard.
Life Surge holds events featuring Christian speakers and presentations about faith, business and building wealth. Tebow has appeared as a headline speaker, while the investigation centers on financial-education programs offered to attendees after the main events.
The Investigation Focused on Expensive Programs Sold After Events
The Pablo Torre investigation describes one-day Life Surge events that can lead attendees to $97 three-day Impact Classes and then to substantially more expensive training in stock-market and real-estate strategies.
Former customers interviewed for the investigation said they felt pressured to spend tens of thousands of dollars on additional programs. Some described using credit cards or home equity to finance the training or investment strategies they were taught.
Life Surge said its representatives are not trained to pressure customers into taking on debt, enrollment in its programs is voluntary and financial outcomes are never guaranteed.
Tebow Says He Was There to Share His Faith
Tebow told reporters that his reason for participating in Life Surge events was to speak about Christianity and share the gospel. He said he now wants his team to determine the facts surrounding the allegations.
Life Surge says Tebow’s compensation was not tied to sales and that headline speakers are not asked to endorse its educational products. TMZ reported that investigators obtained audio from a 2023 event in which Tebow encouraged attendees who had signed up for classes to follow through on that commitment.
The recording does not establish that Tebow knew about the sales practices described by former customers.
Life Surge Disputes the Allegations
Life Surge provided investigators with a lengthy written response rejecting central parts of their reporting. The company said fewer than 3% of event ticket buyers proceed beyond its introductory Impact Classes into advanced training.
It also said one example of its longer advanced programs costs about $27,000 over three years and defended its customer-satisfaction record. Tebow has not been accused in the reporting of personally defrauding customers.
