Andy Cohen is sharing how his relationship with businessman Kevin Sobieski has become part of family life, including conversations with his son Ben about finding a boyfriend.

The Watch What Happens Live host discussed dating and parenthood on the October 20 episode of Carlos King’s Reality With the King podcast.

Cohen, 58, is father to Ben, 7, and Lucy, 4. He welcomed his son through surrogacy in February 2019 and his daughter in April 2022.

He offered another family update during the “Ask Andy” panel at Bravo Fan Fest in Charleston, South Carolina, on October 24.

Ben’s Boyfriend Suggestions Included John Mayer and a Married Friend

Cohen recalled Ben asking over the preceding few years why he didn’t have a boyfriend. His answer was that he hadn’t met the right person, but his son occasionally proposed candidates.

“What about John Mayer?” Ben asked, according to Cohen’s recollection. Cohen dismissed the idea of dating his longtime friend, the Grammy-winning singer.

Ben also suggested Bruce, another close friend of his father’s. That prompted Cohen to explain that Bruce was married.

Cohen and Sobieski made their red-carpet debut at Mayer’s SiriusXM concert at Stephen Talkhouse in Amagansett, New York, on August 26, as Wealth of Geeks reported. Cohen also interviewed Mayer before the performance.

Cohen Waited Eight Months to Tell His Children Kevin Was His Boyfriend

As Us Weekly reported, Cohen told King that he and Sobieski had been dating for eight months before they told the children they were a couple.

By then, Ben and Lucy had already spent time with Sobieski and grown fond of him. Cohen said he wanted them to develop that connection before explaining the romantic relationship.

He told Ben first. “Lucy and I just love him so much,” the boy replied, according to Cohen. Ben also acknowledged that his father loved Sobieski and had finally found the boyfriend he wanted.

Cohen told King that his son’s response was everything he had hoped it would be.

Why Cohen Decided to Talk About His Relationship Publicly

Cohen met Sobieski at a friend’s Fourth of July party in the Hamptons in 2025, a gathering he almost skipped. He confirmed their relationship on the June 8 episode of SiriusXM‘s Andy Cohen Live, saying they had been dating for 11 months.

Photographs of the two holding hands had drawn attention to the romance. Cohen told King they had already been holding hands openly around the West Village for months, including while sitting in restaurants.

He had already discussed speaking publicly about Sobieski because he was happy and wanted to share that part of his life.

There was also a professional consideration. Cohen routinely asks television guests to discuss personal matters and talks about his own family on the radio. He said keeping such a significant relationship entirely off-limits would have felt hypocritical.

Fatherhood Has Changed How Cohen Approaches Love

King asked whether Sobieski represented Cohen’s first experience of genuine love. Cohen said no, explaining that what distinguished this relationship was the stage of life in which it had developed.

He described knowing himself better as a father of two and feeling confident about where he wanted to be. “I’m more settled than I’ve ever been in my life,” he said.

Cohen Shares a Family Update at Bravo Fan Fest

Asked what melted his heart about his children, Cohen said he loved watching them absorb information and learn about the world.

He also described their response to Sobieski as an “incredible journey for us as a family.”

The conversation turned to Halloween preparations, too. Ben planned to dress as Darth Maul from Star Wars, while Lucy was reconsidering her butterfly costume in favor of a fairy.

Cohen suggested combining the ideas into a fairy butterfly. Lucy wanted to know what that meant, prompting him to tell her she could make it whatever she wanted.
