Sean “Diddy” Combs’ projected prison release has moved back 41 days, reversing recent changes that had brought his expected release closer.
Bureau of Prisons records reviewed by PEOPLE on Oct. 7 list March 2, 2028. Combs is currently held at FCI Fort Dix, a low-security federal prison in New Jersey.
The previous projection, Jan. 21, 2028, appeared in records reviewed Sept. 29 and reported by Wealth of Geeks the following day.
The BOP declined to explain the revision, citing privacy, safety and security. A spokesperson for Combs told Us Weekly that his team receives no explanation of how the agency adjusts his dates.

In a Sept. 29 investigation, NBC News reporters Rich Schapiro and Chloe Melas interviewed four men who had spent time in Combs’ housing unit. The outlet also reviewed prison photographs and video, including footage appearing to show him using a contraband cellphone.
Sources alleged that he used phones to access Instagram and sexually explicit photographs. Two described a modified tablet that allowed him to watch movies and documentaries beyond its normal restrictions.
The men said people outside the prison deposited thousands of dollars a month into inmates’ commissary accounts to pay for services. Those allegedly included cooking curry chicken, pizza and empanadas, making his bed, doing his laundry, cleaning bathroom areas and providing Chinese-style massages.
Sources also claimed Combs had access to Hennessy and bought the prescription drug Remeron from other inmates. His spokesperson criticized the attention paid to his incarceration, saying the media was treating “ordinary prison life” as news.
Combs Reportedly Returned to the Special Housing Unit
TMZ reported Sept. 30 that Combs was returning to the Special Housing Unit while prison officials investigated the allegations. Retired BOP investigator Vito Maraviglia told NBC News that prisoners can be placed in the unit while staff gather evidence.
Two men who had spent time at Fort Dix described its SHU residents sharing cells with one other person and remaining inside for at least 23 hours a day. They said meals were delivered on trays, commissary access was restricted and showers were permitted only a few days a week.
Combs had previously entered the SHU in July after a reported altercation with another prisoner. By Aug. 12, TMZ reported that he had left the unit.
He Received a 50-Month Sentence After Two Convictions
U.S. District Judge Arun Subramanian sentenced Combs on Oct. 3, 2025, after a Manhattan jury convicted him that July of two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution. Jurors acquitted him of racketeering conspiracy and sex-trafficking charges, Reuters reported.
Combs had been held at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn following his September 2024 arrest. That time in custody counts toward his prison term. The judgment also included a $500,000 fine and five years of supervised release.
His Lawyers Are Challenging the Convictions and Sentence
Combs’ spokesperson said Oct. 7 that he was still awaiting a decision on his appeal. A three-judge panel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit heard arguments on April 9.
According to Reuters, defense lawyer Alexandra Shapiro argued that Subramanian improperly considered evidence involving threats to former girlfriends when determining the sentence because that conduct concerned charges rejected by the jury.
Prosecutor Christy Slavik countered that the threats were also relevant to the transportation offenses and could properly be considered when deciding how severely to punish those crimes.
